Pinups Presents Patrick Lee (2018)
For the debut issue Patrick Lee photographed Esteban Bartholo and Devin Corbin at a secluded cruising spot in the Mojave Desert. Patrick Lee is known for his photorealistic graphite portraits of toughs and for his mystifying landscape photography. Lee’s Pinups exploration fuses his favorite subject matter in an atmospheric story of cruising at dusk.
Pinups Presents Paul Mpagi Sepuya with Dorian Wood (2019)
Paul Mpagi Sepuya and Dorian Wood team up for the second installment in the Pinups artist series. Shot in Sepuya’s Los Angeles studio, the pictures demonstrate a process more collaborative than a typical portrait sitting. With two cameras and a mirror the simple setup gives way to complex imagery that brings into focus the connection between photographer and subject while simultaneously blurring their roles. The use of reflection, an allusion to the mechanics of the camera, entangles the viewer into the scene.
